In 2 Tagen über den Ozean
Poster by Ottomar Anton depicting the Hindenburg crossing the Atlantic, cleverly juxtaposed with an archaic merchant vessel below it to emphasize the speed of the new airship. Text reads: In 2 Days Across the Ocean, German Zeppelin Transport Company, Hamburg-America Line
The Hindenburg made 17 transatlantic flights in 1936, its only full year of operation. It was on her first North American crossing in 1937 that the airship tragically burst into flames while attempting to dock in Lakehurst, New Jersey, the event now known as the Hindenburg Disaster. As the poster suggests, the trip toward Europe could be made in two days while the westward transit could last up to three days.
