Tricolor Legion
Poster from Vichy France recruiting for the short-lived Légion Tricolore (Tricolor Legion), noted for featuring a combination of French motifs of both monarchist and republican origin. Original illustration by Roland Hugon.
The Tricolor Legion was an initiative by the French government under the auspices of Pierre Laval to co-opt the pre-existing Légion des volontaires français contre le bolchévisme (Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism, LVF) as a professional military unit which would be at the disposal of the Vichy regime. These plans were never realized due to the LVF having to serve on active combat duty on the Eastern Front under German command.
