Forge Our Unity, Join the Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions

A 1943 propaganda poster from the German-occupied Netherlands (Reichskommissariat Niederlande) issued by the Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions (Nederlands Verbond van Vakverenigingen, NVV). The NVV was coopted as a National Socialist union upon the German occupation of the country, where it worked under German supervision to organize labor and stabilize the economy. According to Klemann (2008), new macroeconomic statistics indicate that the Netherlands experienced its best economic performance of the decade under the first year and a half of German administration (1940-41). His studies further conclude that not only was industrial capacity in 1945 (after 5 years of German occupation) larger than in 1940, the Dutch population also grew during this period: advancements undoubtedly spurred in part by the collaborative effort of the NVV and its National Socialist oversight.
